These are portraits of the skeletons as they were being exhumed by archeologists (see https://www.laurafloyd.com/portraits-from-old-athens-cemetery). These three are completed with faces only, some will be three quarters or full length, and all are slightly larger than life. I intend to highlight the skeletons that inspired in me the most emotional impact - small children, bodies that were bisected by the builders trenches or pipes during earlier phases of construction, or faces that simply seemed expressive in some way. Currently seven canvases are planned. My goal is to honor these people as individuals and encourage viewers to contemplate the lives they must have lived.
