On Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, the Oglethorpe Democrats hosted a house party fundraiser for Russell Edwards, candidate for Georgia's 10th Congressional District. The evening was lively and well-attended (with an excellent potluck dinner), and raised over $1200 for the Russell Edwards campaign. Commission Chairman Billy Pittard joined the Oglethorpe Democrats on March 25, 2010. He spoke about a variety of economic development and cost-saving measures in the county. Though elected as a Republican in 2008, Mr. Pittard stated that very little of his job involved politics - he spent most of his time trying to fix problems.
